Velvet Pool

Velvet Pool is an original solo billiards game about finding a clean angle, judging power and planning the next position of the white cue ball. Play a 90-second scoring challenge, return for a dated daily rack, or clear one table at your own pace in free practice.

How do you play Velvet Pool online?

  1. 1Tap or click the cloth to aim from the white ball toward that point. Drag to adjust the direction. On a phone the table turns vertically, giving the balls more space without changing the physics or mirroring your aim.
  2. 2Set the power slider, then press Take shot. Arrow keys rotate the cue and adjust power when the table has focus; hold Shift for finer angle changes. Space or Enter takes the shot. Another shot is available only after every ball has stopped.
  3. 3The dashed white line shows the first ball or cushion in the cue ball’s path. A gold line suggests the first object ball’s initial direction. This is a geometric guide, not a promise that the ball will enter a pocket or avoid every later collision.

What are the rules of Velvet Pool?

  • –Every numbered ball can be pocketed in any order, including the black eight. This is an arcade clearance game rather than official eight-ball: there are no assigned solids or stripes, no called pockets, no opponent and no online matchmaking.
  • –A potted object ball earns 100 points multiplied by your current combo, up to five times. Consecutive scoring shots raise the next shot’s multiplier. A shot with no object ball, or any cue-ball scratch, resets the chain. Clearing a rack adds 500 points.
  • –Timed and daily games start with 90 seconds. Each object ball adds three seconds while time remains, capped at 120 seconds. Pocketing the white ball removes 50 points without going below zero and costs five seconds. The current shot finishes when the clock reaches zero.

What are the best tips for winning at Velvet Pool?

  • –Start with moderate power for an isolated ball. Maximum power makes sense on the opening break, but it also sends the cue ball farther and can leave a difficult next angle. Choose a pocket first, then consider where the white ball may finish.
  • –Rail spin changes the sideways component of the cue ball’s cushion rebound. It does not curve the aiming line or simulate every real-world spin effect. Keep it at zero while learning bank shots, then compare the same angle with a small positive or negative setting.
  • –After a scratch, wait for motion to stop and tap an empty place inside the cushions to reposition the white ball. Occupied spots and pocket mouths are rejected. The game pauses when the browser tab is hidden; resume explicitly. Best scores stay in this browser, separately for each mode and daily date.

What is Velvet Pool?

The table uses a fixed-step simulation with ball collisions, rolling resistance, cushion rebounds and six pockets. Its turquoise cloth, wood rails, ball shading and cue are drawn locally with canvas. The same table-space physics runs in portrait and landscape layouts. Daily rack uses the local calendar date to scatter the balls into a repeatable layout. Everyone using the same date receives the same opening positions; it is not an online leaderboard. Timed racks shuffle their numbers, while the triangle’s geometry remains consistent for a readable opening break.
