📋What are the rules of GeoScout?

  • Each round scores 0 to 5000 points based on the great-circle distance between your pin and the true location.
  • A pin within a few metres earns a perfect or near-perfect 5000; being on the wrong continent earns almost nothing.
  • In Challenge and Daily modes your five round scores add up to a total out of 25,000.
  • You can move, pan and zoom freely your guess is measured from wherever you have ended up when you press Guess.
  • The Daily Challenge uses the same date-seeded set of locations for every player, so scores are comparable.

💡What are the best tips for winning at GeoScout?

  • Read the writing first the alphabet and language on signs narrows the world down to a handful of countries instantly.
  • Check which side of the road traffic drives on; it splits the globe roughly in half before you even look at anything else.
  • Utility poles, road-line colours, license-plate shapes and bollard styles are surprisingly country-specific giveaways.
  • Do not guess from the first frame move a little and turn around; a road sign or storefront one step away often names the place.
  • When you are unsure of the exact city, place your pin in the middle of your best-guess region; distance scoring rewards being close even if not exact.

ℹ️What is GeoScout?

GeoScout brings the wildly popular "guess where in the world you are" format made famous by GeoGuessr and the open-source WorldGuessr to PapoGames as a free browser game. Instead of licensed car-camera imagery, GeoScout is built on Mapillary, an open, community-contributed street-level photo platform, so the panoramas are real places photographed by people all over the world. Every round starts by finding a genuine street photo inside one of dozens of well-covered cities across six continents, then hands you nothing but the view: the language on a shop sign, which side of the road cars drive on, the style of the utility poles, the vegetation, the light these are the clues seasoned players learn to read. Your guess is scored the classic way, with an exponential curve on great-circle distance that rewards precision without punishing a reasonable near-miss too harshly. The Daily Challenge deals the same seeded set of locations to everyone each day, turning it into a shareable competition, while Quick and Challenge modes are always there for a fast game or a full five-round world tour.
